turning 'Bible' into a verb

The Word for today:
James 1:19-27

Mark these:
Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.  (James 1:22)

The one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (James 1:25)

Is your life filled with sameness, stuck in an endless loop?

Do you yearn to throw caution to the winds, to burst the bonds of common convention?  Do you want to gather up your winnings and risk it all on one roll of the dice?  Do you want to live wild and free?

Then just do it.

Do what, you're probably asking.

Do this:

Here's your mission, should you decide to accept it:
Set a date and decide that for one day you are going to be a doer of the word, whatever that might mean in your life.

Make no plans whatsoever, but as you read scripture between now and then, mentally rehearse what Just Doing It will look like when that day comes.

Don't worry about how much you know.  To the best of your ability, without any preconceived plan, spend an entire day doing what it says to do and not doing what it says not to do.

Don't Do It looking for any reward other than the inherent reward of the doing itself.  And don't Do It for anybody else, even yourself.  Do It Just for Jesus.

It will no doubt feel very strange not to criticize anybody behind their backs.  It will feel strange to look gratefully at what we have, and not at what we think we lack.  It will take some practice to live in the moment, to give no thought for tomorrow; to do the humble task, to take the last seat at the table; to let vengeance be the LORD's; to wait upon the LORD; and to tell worries to get behind us.

And please, please don't turn this into goody-goody day.  Don't make us puke.  Take this to a higher level than prissy posturing.  Live this day by the law of liberty--which means you choose to honor Jesus by the conduct of your life:
The one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.  (James 1:25)

So pick your date and print our copyrighted mission statement:

OK, it's a date.  Remember that endless loop that was your life?  Hold on to your hat, 'cause things are about to change.
